What is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day starts at 12 p.m. PT (3 p.m. EST) and ends on July 17 at 11:59 p.m. PT (2:59 a.m. PST). The massive sale is akin to Black Friday (but in the middle of July) and you’re spared the late hours and packed stores: You can purchase everything from the comfort of your own home.
The day-and-a-half sale features over 1 million discounted Amazon products. However, you don’t have the entire 36 hours to shop around for new household appliances: not all of the products are discounted at the same time (some are only on sale for certain hours). There are other products that are first-come, first-serve, and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
Offers differ from country to country. The U.S., UK, Spain, Japan, Mexico, India, Italy, Germany, China, France, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Austria Singapore, Netherlands, and Luxembourg are all in luck.
What kind of deals should I look for?
There are a plethora of deals available to Amazon Prime subscribers (sorry, regular account holders, but you need a Prime membership to participate). You can buy all the Amazon home assistant devices you could dream of, including the 2nd generation Amazon Echo for only $70 (originally $100) and an Indoor Home Security System for $100 (originally $170).
Looking for gifts for the kids? Amazon is discounting a ton of music and stereo systems including a Bose SoundLink Micro wireless speaker for only $69. If you’re looking for an Amazon speaker system specifically, you’re in luck. Amazon is discounting every single speaker they produce.
You’re probably familiar with Apple TV, the Siri-powered cube that allows you to download every streaming service and watch it in HD at the click of the remote’s few buttons. The Amazon Firestick is Alexa’s shot at competing with the Apple TV and allows you to play your favorite shows from Netflix, Hulu, and more just by talking to the remote (or your Alexa device). A ton of FireTV and Roku products and accompaniments are on sale through the retailer today, including a Fire TV Cube available for the lowest price in its lifetime ($89.99).

It’s totally possible to get all of your entertainment needs from Amazon alone. Play games with Twitch, stream Amazon Prime TV, read a book off your Kindle, or drive to the audiobook through Audible. On Amazon Prime Day, the retailer is making it easier (and cheaper!) than ever before to complete your entertainment needs, Amazon-style.
Prime subscribers get free games from Twitch each month, but for the few days surrounding Prime Day, Amazon will offer a different free game each day. It’s offering a number of cheaper subscriptions as well. Rather than spend $10 a month on Kindle Unlimited, purchase three months for just $1 each on Prime Day. Committed to your Spotify subscription? You may want to put it on hold. The Amazon equivalent, Amazon Music, is offering four months for $1 (after the four months you’ll go back to paying the regular $7.99/month subscription).
Audible is a fairly expensive subscription as fas as Amazon goes; one month of the audiobook app will cost you $14.95. Prime subscribers can get their first three months for just $4.95 each if they sign up on or around Prime Day.
Finally, do you need to watch a movie and unwind after the hectic buzz that is Prime Day? Amazon has you covered there as well. They stocked their queue with a number of popular movies to rent through Prime Video for only $1.99 each. Titles include newer hits like Downsizing, Wonder, and Hostiles.
